You are coming to see your Massage Therapist because of tight muscles and restricted movements right? One of the major reasons behind your muscles feeling this way is because they are dehydrated. Your Massage Therapist will be manipulating these areas by using techniques to break up the adhesions that have formed. By warming the muscles, blood flow is improved and built up toxins and metabolic waste that had previously been trapped is released into the lymphatic system. This then allows for oxygen and nutrients to be delivered to the muscles at a faster rate than before by the water in the blood stream. That water needs to be replenished to continue flushing out the toxins and revitalizing the muscles.

One of the biggest complaints and reasons clients do not make follow-up appointments is due to soreness. It is a common complaint as many people these days live sedimentary lives thus causing aches post-massage. Drinking a glass or two of water after massage sessions will prevent the soreness from getting out of hand, and having some before your massage will lesson your chances even more so.

Caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine all have stronger affects after a massage due to the increased blood flow to the muscles. Alcohol and caffeine also produce increased amounts of urine which causes dehydration and is the complete opposite of what you need post massage. Be sure to bypass the bars on the way home from your sessions and just grab an extra bottle of that good ole H2O.
